- In module one, we will explore key laws and legislation surrounding child abuse and neglect, taking an in-depth look at the Child Protection System in England. It also covers what to do if you suspect a child is being abused.
- In module two, we will learn about the general stages of social development, emotional development, attachment and bonding in children. We will take a look at family and outside factors that affect development, as well as the key principles for supporting development.
- In module three, we will broaden our understanding of brain development and personality development, exploring different ages in childhood. We will learn from a psychoanalytical point of view, familiarizing with the common types of personalities of children.
- In module four, we will learn the definition of child abuse, taking a look at who is at risk and why. It also goes into great detail about the different types of abuse, including neglect, bullying and child trafficking.
- In module five, we will explore various forms of sexual abuse, from child sexual exploitation to sexual abuse online. It discusses the signs and impact of sexual abuse, common patterns of abuse, and how to provide support to an abused child.
- In module six, we will learn about the types of domestic violence, as well as who is at risk of domestic violence and why. It also covers your legal responsibilities when working with abused children
- In module seven, we will explore the factors that may increase the risk of abuse, with guidance on how to conduct a single assessment and identify if a child is at risk or not.
- In module eight, we will deepen our understanding of fulfilling “duty of care” and our legal requirements when working with children. It explores how to take action if a child discloses and why children often don’t disclose.
- In this final module, we will learn about the referral process and what happens after a referral. It also explores what to do if you disagree with social care’s decision, as well as child protection planning.
